We are honored to have Natalia Viera Salgado, Associate Curator at the National Academy of Design and curatorial resident at Abrons Arts Center, as the Guest Juror.
One artist will be selected as the Summer 2025 Resident.

Application Fee

The application fee covers administrative costs and the ability to offer this equitable opportunity at no cost to the participating artist.


The Canopy Residency (previously called ‘Plum Lime Residency’) provides artists with a large private studio in the Chelsea Gallery District of New York City for 4 weeks to create a new body of work, host studio visits, immerse themselves in their practice, and take advantage of being in the heart of Chelsea!
The Canopy Residency is offered each Summer.

 
 

The Summer 2025 Canopy Resident will receive:

  • 4 weeks at The Canopy Program Studio: a free, large (550 sq. ft.), and private space, with 24/7 access. Located in the heart of Chelsea, NYC. 

  • A studio visit with juror + curator Natalia Viera Salgado.

  • Open studio event at end of residency.

  • Artist feature on The Canopy Program/NYC Crit Club website and Instagram.

  • $75 Blick Gift Card for Blick Art Materials

2025 Guest Juror

Natalia Viera Salgado is a Puerto Rican curator based in New York City and co-founder of :Pública Espacio Cultural in Santurce, Puerto Rico.

Her research explores contemporary art through decolonial practices, architecture, social and environmental justice, and new media. She has held roles at the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña, El Museo del Barrio, Socrates Sculpture Park, The Nathan Cummings Foundation, and Americas Society. Viera holds an MA in Curatorial Practice from the School of Visual Arts and is currently the Associate Curator at the National Academy of Design and a curatorial resident at Abrons Arts Center.  


The Plum Lime Residency was established in 2021 and was originally based in Bushwick (Brooklyn, NY). We are honored to have hosted 11 Plum Lime Resident Artists since 2021. We look forward to continuing to offer this invaluable opportunity in our new Canopy Program Studio in Chelsea (NYC). We encourage all artists to apply!
