Why Paint?
The current age we live in has been described as: The Internet Era, The Information Age, The Post-Digital Era, and the New Media Age. Technology has changed the way we make, think, and look at art. So with all of the available means of creative expression - and with more choices and less emphasis on expertise no less - why do we still paint?
Why is a thousand year old medium still relevant in the 21st Century? Or maybe it’s not? This seminar will be based around readings that address the philosophical and historical underpinning of painting, but more significantly, will address the roles of painting in the future. It is recommended for those who are interested in subjectivity in painting, and are looking to expand their methods of generating content within the act of painting.
Artists in Why Paint?:
Build a community of supportive artists whose interests are primarily or tangentially concerned with painting and the act of painting
Learn from guest speaker Andrew Woolbright will discuss his work followed by a Q & A with the class.
Cynthia Daignault will present her work and review an essay with the artist in this course.
Watch presentations by critic Andrew Prayzner and peers weekly on topics of subject matter, content, and process in painting.
Guest Speaker
