Cohort Artists
Virtual Cohort
Fall 2023 | Winter 2024 | Spring 2024
The artists featured below were accepted to the 2023-2024 year of The Canopy Program. Together, with the guidance of their Faculty Mentor, Yevgeniya Baras, the artists developed their studio practice through critiques, Artist Talks + Q&As, seminars, and workshops. The Canopy Program is a year-long commitment, this Cohort met virtually for three consecutive semesters. Their experience will culminate with a pop-up Group Show in Chelsea (NYC).
Cohort Exhibition
Each Canopy Cohort presents a culminating pop-up group exhibition.
Ten by Night
Canopy Studio, 508 W. 26th St. #6E
June 12-13, 12-5pm
OpeningThursday, July 11, 6-8 pm
First look, a shimmer or pinhole to thread
revisiting a field that’s empty but it’s waiting,
ducking in with a lump in it’s throat, deep dark sky,
sublime eternal horizon, budge-up
azul azul azul
conductor of cavorting mazes, scratchy lime, lavender
A frame steadfast and true
brokenness and rebuilding and looking for quiet
What it’s like to sit
among the trees
Borrowing or giving
we’re in this place once together
mailbox to sheeps wool
And a red meandering trail that barely skims the ground
Then suddenly thick, heavy dense as doubt
meandering off the edge,
Where it’s spelled out for you
It’s a question
you’re not obligated to accept
Ten By Night is a group exhibition presenting works made during the course of the Canopy Program, a year-long intensive dialogue led by artist Yevgeniya Baras and developed by NYC Crit Club.
Exhibition text by Cate Holt. Graphic design by Rosabel Ferber.
