Semester 1: FOUNDATIONS

Semester 2: VISITING CRITICS
January - February 2024
- Exclusive access to Artist Lectures + Q&A by Visiting Critics + 2 critique opportunities w/ each Visiting Critic
- Artist Statement reviewed by guest Writing Critic

Semester 3: THE FULL PICTURE
March - May 2024

9 weekly meetings w/ Cohort + Mentor
- 2 critiques with gallerists/curators as Visiting Critics
- 2 Professional Practices speakers (covering topics such as residencies, grants, communications, etc.)
- Group feedback on artist writing + portfolio

The Canopy Program 2023-2024

The Canopy Program is a year-long mentorship intensive program, providing artists access to work exclusively with a Faculty Mentor and a Cohort of 10 artists for three semesters. The 2023-2024 Program semesters are Fall 2023, Winter 2024, and Spring 2024.

Cohorts are available virtually via Zoom for artists based across the globe, and in-person Cohorts are available for artists living in the New York City / Tri-state area.

Application Information

The Canopy Program is a juried based application.

Program acceptance will be based on level of commitment to the year's schedule and the development of the artist's work and experience. The level of participation within each artist's respective community and their engagement with group dynamics is considered in this program's scope and application decisions. Applicant Requirements:

  • Artists of all ages welcome to apply. Must be 20 years old + and not currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.

  • Artists of any academic pedigree (BA, BFA, MFA, or self-taught) are welcome to apply. Artists are juried based on the caliber of their work and dedication to their artistic practice.

  • Artists are welcome to apply to more than one Cohort via the application. If accepted, you will be accepted into only one Cohort. Please clarify on your application who is your first choice Faculty Mentor to work with.

  • A website link or Google Slides portfolio showcasing at least 15-20 artwork images (completed artworks or installation views). Artists of all disciplines are encouraged to apply; including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, sculpture, video, performance, etc. Please note: Instagram is not a tool for us to review artists' work.

  • On the application you will be asked to write two brief statements of intent explaining your decision to apply to The Canopy Program and sharing more about your choice of Faculty Mentor.

Friday, August 25th

If accepted, Cohort Deposit of $500 due:
Wednesday, August 30th

2023-2024 Canopy Program begins:
Week of September 11th


Program Tuition

The full tuition total is $6,500, which includes:

$500 deposit to secure seat in cohort (part of tuition)

3rd Semester (approx. $1800 per term)

2nd Semester Tuition (approx. $1800 per term)

3rd Semester (approx. $1800 per term)

Remainder of tuition ($600) is allocated to Administrative costs + NYC Group Show logistics

 

About the 2023-2024 Cohort Mentors

Jared Linge

Jared Linge is an established gallerist + curator. Jared founded High Noon in 2017 after receiving a classical education in Drawing & Painting and Art History at the Laguna College of Art and Design and eight years of experience working in contemporary art on both coasts.

​High Noon advocates a model of exhibiting and supporting art that is collaborative and artist-centered. Through our exhibitions, projects, and art fairs, High Noon facilitates bringing new and under-recognized artists and their relevant perspectives to a deserving market, while embracing the malleable, collaborative future of the art world.

Yevgeniya Baras

Yevgeniya Baras is an artist working in New York. She has exhibited her work at galleries including White Columns, NY; Reyes Finn Gallery, Detroit; Gavin Brown Enterprise, NY; Nicelle Beauchene, NY; Mother Gallery, NY; Inman Gallery, Houston; Sperone Westwater Gallery, NY; Thomas Erben Gallery, NY; the Pit, LA as well as internationally including NBB Gallery, Berlin; Julien Cadet Gallery, Paris; Station Gallery, Sydney. 

She is represented by the Landing Gallery in LA and Sargent’s Daughters in NY.

Yevgeniya is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner grant in 2023 and 2018. Yevgeniya was named Senior Fulbright Scholar for 2022/2023. She was a recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in 2021, Guggenheim Fellowship in 2019.

Yevgeniya was selected for the Chinati Foundation Residency in 2018 and the Yaddo Residency in 2017. She received the Artadia Prize and was selected for the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program and the MacDowell Colony residency in 2015. In 2014 she was named a recipient of the Rema Hort Mann Foundation’s Emerging Artist Prize. Her work has been reviewed in the New York Times, LA Times, ArtForum, The New York Review of Books, and Art in America. 

Yevgeniya co-founded and co-curated Regina Rex Gallery on the Lower East Side of NY (2010-2018).

Yevgeniya holds a BA in Psychology and Fine Arts and an MS in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Kimia Ferdowsi Kline

Kimia Ferdowsi Kline earned an M.F.A. at the San Francisco Art Institute and holds a B.F.A. in painting from Washington University in St. Louis, where she was awarded a full-tuition Danforth Scholarship.

She has mounted solo exhibitions at Turn Gallery (New York), Marrow Gallery (San Francisco), The Elaine L. Jacobs Gallery at Wayne State University (Detroit) and 68 Projects (Berlin). Select group shows include Diane Rosenstein, Ceysson & Bénétière, The Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, CANADA Gallery, and The Drawing Center.

In 2015 she was awarded a grant and residency through the New York Foundation for the Arts. In 2018 she was honored to be nominated for a Rema Hort Mann Emerging Artist Grant.

Avery Z. Nelson

Avery Z. Nelson (they/he) was born in Rhinebeck, NY and received an MFA from Columbia University. Nelson recently opened solo exhibitions at Rachel Uffner (NYC) and Nogueras Blanchard (Barcelona). They are currently working towards a solo show this fall at Blade Study (NYC). Recent group exhibitions include Para Site (Hong Kong), Mrs. Gallery (Queens), and Rachel Uffner (NYC). They were awarded a Sharpe-Walentas Studio Residency in 2019 and an FST Studio Projects Grant in 2021. Nelson teaches at The New School (NYC) and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
